Applications
1-Monomethylol-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (CAS 116-25-6) is mainly used as an intermediate in the synthesis of hydantoin derivatives carrying a methylol group, notably those developed as formaldehyde-releasing preservatives for cosmetics, personal care products, and household formulations. It is also used as a precursor in the manufacture of resins, coatings, adhesives, and other polymer systems where the methylol functionality enables crosslinking or controlled formaldehyde release during processing. In addition, the compound may be evaluated for broader industrial applications as a specialty chemical intermediate and for development of additional hydantoin-based products, subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
