  • Applications

1-Eicosanol (arachidyl alcohol, CAS 629-96-9) is a C20 linear fatty alcohol with a waxy solid form, used as an emollient, structurant, viscosity/consistency modifier and co-emulsifier in cosmetics and personal care (creams, lotions, lipsticks, sunscreens) to improve skin feel and spreadability; as an intermediate to produce nonionic and anionic surfactants (ethoxylates, ether sulfates) and eicosyl esters employed as emulsifiers, wetting agents, detergents and lubricants; as a lubricant and processing aid in plastics and rubber (friction reduction, mold release), and as a softener/finishing agent in textiles and leather; as a component of technical waxes and polishes; as a medium-temperature phase-change material due to its melting enthalpy for thermal energy storage and buffering; as a hydrophobizing surface modifier for inorganic fillers or pigments; and in R&D/analytical work as a reference standard or for studying crystallization behavior of long-chain fatty alcohols.
