Applications
(5E)-1-Acetoxy-5-dodecene is a long-chain acetate ester used primarily as a synthetic semiochemical/pheromone component for certain insect species (notably Lepidoptera) to formulate lures, monitor populations, and implement mating disruption in integrated pest management; it also serves as a versatile intermediate in organic synthesis (hydrolysis to (E)-5-dodecen-1-ol, oxidation to (E)-5-dodecenal, and participation in allylic substitution such as Tsuji–Trost or other double-bond transformations), as a reference standard for developing/calibrating GC/GC-MS methods for long-chain acetate esters, as a model substrate to study esterase/lipase selectivity and ester stability/biodegradation, and as a hydrophobic building block for materials, coatings, and controlled-release carriers used in pheromone formulations.
