    (S)-gamma-Calacorene (CAS 38599-17-6) là một sesquiterpen thơm có tính đối hình; trong thực hành, chất này chủ yếu được dùng như chuẩn tham chiếu enantiomer tinh khiết cho GC/GC–MS/HPLC đối quang, hiệu chuẩn độ quay cực và các kỹ thuật chiroptical (ECD, VCD), phục vụ định danh và định lượng dấu vết của calacorene trong tinh dầu và hỗn hợp hương; trong nghiên cứu tổng hợp và xúc tác bất đối xứng để chuẩn hóa độ chọn lọc và kiểm chứng cơ chế tạo vòng terpene; làm đầu dò trong nghiên cứu sinh tổng hợp sesquiterpen của thực vật/vi sinh và trong hóa phân loại, truy xuất nguồn gốc và xác thực tinh dầu (ví dụ gỗ tuyết tùng, bách xù, hoắc hương) qua dấu vân tay GC; trong công nghệ hương liệu, enantiomer (S) được khảo sát như thành phần hương có nốt gỗ khô–nhựa thơm, hỗ trợ tạo nền woody/amber và điều chỉnh sắc thái trong nước hoa, chăm sóc cá nhân và sản phẩm gia dụng, cũng như trong nghiên cứu vi bao/giải phóng có kiểm soát của mùi; ngoài ra còn được dùng như chất mô hình kỵ nước để đánh giá tương tác ma trận–mùi, ổn định oxy hóa và độ bay hơi, và là đối tượng sàng lọc hoạt tính sinh học ở mức khám phá trong phát hiện đầu mối mới.
