    Methyl hexanoate, CAS 106-70-7, là este có mùi trái cây đặc trưng được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong công nghiệp hương liệu và thực phẩm để tạo hương dứa, táo và chuối cho kẹo, nước giải khát, sữa chua cũng như trong ngành thuốc lá, đồng thời nó còn được dùng trong nước hoa, mỹ phẩm để mang lại nốt hương tươi mát, ngọt dịu; trong nông nghiệp hợp chất này được khai thác như thành phần mồi dụ ruồi giấm và sâu bệnh nhờ khả năng thu hút côn trùng, còn trong tổng hợp hữu cơ, nó đóng vai trò làm dung môi trung gian hoặc nguồn gốc cho phản ứng điều chế các este mạch dài hơn, chất hoạt động bề mặt và chất dẻo sinh học, ngoài ra vì có điểm sôi vừa phải và khả năng phân hủy sinh học tốt nên methyl hexanoate cũng được nghiên cứu như dung môi xanh thay thế cho dung môi truyền thống trong sơn và mực in, góp phần giảm phát thải VOC.
