    Methyl geranate (CAS 2349-14-6) là một este monoterpen có mùi cam chanh pha hoa hồng dễ chịu, được ưa dùng làm thành phần hương trong nước hoa, mỹ phẩm, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân, chất tẩy rửa và chăm sóc vải/không khí để tăng nốt citrus/green, làm tươi cấu trúc hương và che phủ mùi nền; trong lĩnh vực hương liệu thực phẩm, hợp chất này được phối trộn trong nền hương đồ uống, kẹo và bánh nướng nhằm bổ sung sắc thái cam quýt – trái cây – hoa và điều chỉnh độ bền mùi/vị; trong nông nghiệp và kiểm soát dịch hại, methyl geranate được nghiên cứu và khai thác như bán hóa chất (semiochemical) cho mồi bẫy/giám sát quần thể, nhờ độ bay hơi phù hợp và hồ sơ an toàn thuận lợi; trong tổng hợp hữu cơ, nó là nguyên liệu trung gian sinh học để tạo acid geranic và các este/amide chức năng, là cơ chất cho phản ứng xúc tác enzyme và khối xây dựng cho dẫn xuất terpen liên quan đến mùi – vị; ngoài ra còn dùng làm đồng dung môi/phụ gia “xanh” trong hệ phóng thích chậm, tiêu chuẩn phân tích cho GC–MS và vật liệu lõi cho vi nang hoặc polyme giải phóng có kiểm soát.
