    Furfuryl alcohol (C5H6O2, CAS 98-00-0) là một alcohol thơm có mùi đặc trưng, được công nghiệp khai thác chủ yếu từ furfural sinh khối và đóng vai trò trung gian quan trọng trong nhiều lĩnh vực: nó được polymer hóa cùng nhựa furan làm chất kết dính cường độ cao cho cát đúc, chế tạo lõi và khuôn chịu nhiệt trong ngành đúc kim loại; được sulfon hoá hoặc đồng polymer hóa để tạo sơn, lớp phủ, vữa và bê tông polymer kháng axit, kháng ăn mòn cho xây dựng công nghiệp; được thấm sâu vào gỗ thông, tre, gỗ cứng nhằm gia cường, chống nứt, chống mối mọt trong công nghệ gỗ biến tính; đóng vai trò dung môi phản ứng, chất hoạt hóa bề mặt trong sản xuất thuốc trừ sâu, dược phẩm, phụ gia thực phẩm, hương liệu; là tiền chất để hydro hóa thành tetrahydrofuran hoặc chuyển hóa thành 2-methylfuran dùng làm dung môi, chất tẩy rửa, thành phần nhiên liệu sinh học và thậm chí từng được thử nghiệm như nhiên liệu tên lửa khi oxy hóa bằng nitric acid; nhờ có nguồn gốc tái tạo, furfuryl alcohol ngày càng được coi là phân tử nền bền vững cho hóa học xanh.
