    Decan (n-decane, CAS 124-18-5) là hydrocarbon mạch thẳng C10H22 thường được dùng làm dung môi không phân cực cho chất kỵ nước, dầu sáp và polyme; môi trường chiết tách và làm sạch, pha dầu trong nhũ tương và vi lưu chất; chuẩn chuỗi n-alkane để hiệu chuẩn và xác lập chỉ số lưu giữ (Kovats) trong sắc ký khí cũng như kiểm tra hiệu năng cột và chương trình nhiệt; và là hydrocarbon mô hình trong nghiên cứu cháy, bay hơi – phun, hình thành muội, và động học cháy đối với xăng, dầu hỏa và diesel. Trong kỹ thuật dầu khí và môi trường, decan được dùng như “dầu mô hình” để khảo sát thấm ướt, sức căng bề mặt – liên diện và dòng chảy qua môi trường rỗng, cũng như đánh giá chất hoạt động bề mặt và quy trình thu hồi dầu tăng cường; ngoài ra còn làm môi trường phản ứng không phân cực trong tổng hợp hạt nano, vật liệu và thử nghiệm tính chất nhiệt – vận chuyển, với lưu ý đây là chất lỏng dễ cháy cần thao tác thông gió tốt và kiểm soát nguồn đánh lửa.
