    Cadalene (CAS 483-78-3) là 1,6-dimethyl-4-isopropylnaphthalene, một hydrocarbon thơm có nguồn gốc sesquiterpen cadinane của thực vật bậc cao, được ứng dụng chủ yếu như chất chỉ thị địa hóa và sinh địa hóa để truy vết đóng góp vật chất hữu cơ trên cạn vào trầm tích, than và dầu khí, phân biệt tương đối nguồn thực vật hạt trần – hạt kín (ví dụ qua tỷ số retene/cadalene và phân bố diaromatic sesquiterpenoid), tương quan dầu–đá mẹ, suy luận mức độ chín nhiệt và biến đổi hậu sinh (biodegradation); trong khoa học môi trường và pháp y, nó hỗ trợ phân định nguồn PAH có nguồn gốc sinh học–dầu mỏ so với đốt cháy và tái dựng biến động thảm thực vật, lịch sử cháy rừng qua lõi trầm tích và sol khí; trong phân tích tinh dầu và thực vật, cadalene là marker đặc trưng của các hệ tinh dầu giàu khung cadinane (như patchouli, juniper, cypress), giúp định danh, kiểm soát chất lượng và phát hiện pha trộn bằng hồ sơ GC–MS; trong khảo cổ – bảo tồn, nó góp phần nhận diện nhựa, gỗ và bitumen có nguồn gốc thực vật; ngoài ra cadalene thường được dùng làm chuẩn tham chiếu để hiệu chuẩn, thẩm định phương pháp GC/MS, HPLC và phân tích đồng vị hợp chất (CSIA), cũng như nghiên cứu hấp phụ, vận chuyển và độc tính sinh thái của PAH trung bình trọng lượng phân tử; hợp chất chủ yếu phục vụ nghiên cứu, cần xử lý an toàn như các PAH kỵ nước khác.
