    Butyl butyrate (CAS 109-21-7) là một este tự nhiên có mùi thơm trái cây đặc trưng của dứa-chuối, được sử dụng rộng rãi như hương liệu thực phẩm đáp ứng tiêu chuẩn FCC để tạo hương cho kẹo, đồ uống, sản phẩm sữa, bánh nướng; trong ngành nước hoa và mỹ phẩm nó góp phần tạo nốt hương nhiệt đới nhẹ, làm chất điều hương che giấu mùi khó chịu của dung môi; trong sơn, mực in, vecni và chất kết dính, chất lỏng không màu này đóng vai trò dung môi bay hơi trung bình, cải thiện độ chảy màng và độ bóng; trong dược phẩm và sản phẩm OTC, nó được dùng như tá dược để che vị đắng, hỗ trợ vi dung sơn bao; các phòng thí nghiệm hương vị-mùi học dùng nó làm chất chuẩn GC-MS cũng như tác nhân thu hút côn trùng trong nghiên cứu sinh thái; ngoài ra butyl butyrate còn được xem xét như thành phần dầu sinh học trộn xăng nhờ mật độ năng lượng cao, chỉ số cetan thuận lợi và nguồn gốc sinh khối bền vững, đáp ứng quy định EU 1334/2008 và IFRA về an toàn.
