    alpha-Santalene (CAS 512-61-8) là một sesquiterpen hydrocarbon có mùi gỗ ấm, balsamic đặc trưng, là thành phần quan trọng của tinh dầu gỗ đàn hương; được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong nước hoa (làm nốt gỗ nền, bổ trợ độ sâu và độ bền mùi, pha trộn với hổ phách, xạ hương, hoa trắng), hương liệu và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân; dùng trong điều hương tinh dầu và liệu pháp mùi hương; làm chất chuẩn tham chiếu trong phân tích GC/GC‑MS để định danh, chuẩn hóa và phát hiện pha trộn/giả mạo tinh dầu đàn hương; là phân tử nền trong công nghệ sinh học mùi hương (sản xuất bằng lên men nhờ enzyme santalene synthase, sau đó chuyển hóa thành santalol/sandalwood-like notes để tạo nguồn cung bền vững); được nghiên cứu như bán hóa chất/ chất dẫn dụ–xua đuổi côn trùng và hoạt tính sinh học (kháng vi sinh, chống oxy hóa, kháng viêm) trong nông nghiệp–mỹ phẩm nguồn gốc tự nhiên; dùng làm nguyên liệu trung gian trong tổng hợp hữu cơ tạo dẫn xuất hương gỗ và nghiên cứu lập thể; đồng thời hỗ trợ kiểm nghiệm truy xuất nguồn gốc, lập “dấu vân tay” tinh dầu và nghiên cứu sinh học con đường sesquiterpen; ứng dụng thương mại cần tuân thủ tiêu chuẩn IFRA, an toàn tiếp xúc da và quy định REACH/GHS.
