    Acetone (CAS 67-64-1) là dung môi hữu cơ phân cực bay hơi cao, được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong nhiều lĩnh vực: trong phòng thí nghiệm và sản xuất hóa chất, nó đóng vai trò dung môi rửa sạch dụng cụ thủy tinh, pha loãng hoặc chiết tách các hợp chất khó tan, làm chất cuốn trong sắc ký và chuẩn bị mẫu cho quang phổ; trong công nghiệp sơn, mực in, keo dán và nhựa, acetone hòa tan nhanh các polyme như nitrocellulose, polystyren, acrylic, giúp điều chỉnh độ nhớt, rút ngắn thời gian khô, đồng thời đóng vai trò chất làm sạch bề mặt trước khi phủ; trong sản xuất monomer methyl methacrylate và bisphenol A, nó là nguyên liệu trung gian thiết yếu, mở đường cho chế tạo PMMA, polycarbonate và epoxy resin; trong mỹ phẩm và chăm sóc cá nhân, acetone xuất hiện trong nước rửa sơn móng tay, dung dịch tẩy keo mi giả, chất tẩy dầu trên da để chuẩn bị bề mặt trước khi trang điểm và xăm thẩm mỹ; trong lĩnh vực dược phẩm, nó tham gia tinh chế hoạt chất, kết tinh steroid, khử nước màng bao; ngoài ra acetone còn được dùng làm chất tẩy dầu mỡ trong cơ khí, làm lạnh gián tiếp trong bể đá khô-acetone, làm nhiên liệu phụ trợ cho đèn lửa, và làm chất bảo vệ mẫu sinh học nhờ khả năng thẩm thấu và khử nước nhanh. Acetone bay hơi nhanh, dễ cháy và có mùi đặc trưng, vì vậy việc lưu trữ, vận chuyển và sử dụng luôn cần tuân thủ nghiêm ngặt các quy định an toàn về phòng cháy và thông gió.
