    9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (linoleic acid, CAS 2197-37-7) được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong thực phẩm và dinh dưỡng như nguồn acid béo omega-6, bổ sung vi chất và tăng cường giá trị dinh dưỡng cho sản phẩm và thức ăn chăn nuôi; trong mỹ phẩm chăm sóc da và tóc như chất làm mềm, dưỡng ẩm, phục hồi hàng rào lipid, hỗ trợ hoà tan hoạt chất kỵ nước và giảm kích ứng; trong dược phẩm như tá dược lipid, tá chất tạo vi nhũ/nhũ tương, chất mang cho hệ phân phối thuốc và tiền chất tổng hợp dược chất; trong công nghiệp hóa chất làm nguyên liệu sản xuất ester, amide và surfactant, nhựa alkyd, dimer acid cho polyamide, chất dẻo hóa và chất ổn định sau khi epoxid hóa, dầu bôi trơn sinh học, mực in, sơn/vecni, xà phòng và chất tẩy rửa; làm nguyên liệu transester hoá để sản xuất biodiesel; trong nông nghiệp làm phụ gia bám dính/chuyển ướt và chất mang hoạt chất; trong phòng thí nghiệm làm nguồn carbon cho vi sinh, chất chuẩn phân tích, nghiên cứu chuyển hoá lipid, stress oxy hoá và mô phỏng peroxid hoá màng; lưu ý do đa bất bão hoà nên dễ oxy hoá, thường được bảo quản nơi mát, kín khí, tránh sáng, có chất chống oxy hoá hoặc khí trơ, và trong công thức có thể chuyển thành ester (ví dụ methyl/ethyl linoleate), muối hoặc triglyceride để cải thiện ổn định, mùi và khả năng hoà tan.
