    4,6,6-Trimethylbicyclo(3.1.1)hept-3-en-2-one (verbenone, CAS 80-57-9) là một monoterpen keton có nhiều ứng dụng: trong lâm nghiệp và bảo vệ thực vật, nó được dùng như pheromone kháng tụ tập (anti-aggregation) để làm nhiễu hướng tính và ức chế tập kích của nhiều loài bọ vỏ thông (ví dụ Dendroctonus, Ips), thường ở dạng túi hoặc hạt phát thải chậm phục vụ quản lý dịch hại tổng hợp nhằm bảo vệ rừng thông và vườn ươm; trong ngành hương – liệu, nó là thành phần mùi có sắc thái nhựa thông, bạc hà, thảo mộc và long não dùng để hiệu chỉnh mùi trong nước hoa, mỹ phẩm, chất tẩy rửa và sản phẩm khử mùi, cũng như tạo sắc thái nhất định trong hương thực phẩm ở liều rất thấp; trong hóa hữu cơ, cấu trúc bicyclo chiral của verbenone khiến nó trở thành nguyên liệu/trung gian tổng hợp hữu ích cho các dẫn xuất terpene, lacton hoặc khung camphor, đồng thời là cơ chất mô hình cho các phản ứng oxy hóa Baeyer–Villiger, hydro hoá bất đối xứng, epoxid hóa và nghiên cứu xúc tác chọn lọc; ngoài ra, hợp chất còn được sử dụng trong nghiên cứu sinh thái hóa học và khứu giác côn trùng, trong phát triển hệ mang phát thải có kiểm soát, và đôi khi trong lĩnh vực hương liệu – trị liệu như một mùi hương gợi cảm giác thanh sạch, với lưu ý tuân thủ quy định an toàn và ghi nhãn địa phương khi ứng dụng.
