    2-Isopropyl-5-methylanisole (CAS 1076-56-8), còn gọi là thymol methyl ether, là một dẫn xuất anisole có mùi ấm, thảo mộc, hơi ngọt kiểu cỏ xạ hương và gỗ, được dùng chủ yếu làm thành phần hương trong nước hoa, xà phòng, chất tẩy rửa, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân và khử mùi không khí để bổ sung sắc thái cay–balsamic và làm tròn các tông cam quýt/nhựa; trong hương liệu–thực phẩm, nó được dùng ở hàm lượng vết để nhấn mạnh profile thyme, oregano, bạc hà và vị mặn/nướng trong gia vị khô, súp và đồ uống; trong tổng hợp, hợp chất này đóng vai trò trung gian dựa trên khung thymol để điều chế ether/ester thơm, demethyl hóa thành thymol, hoặc chức năng hóa vòng (ví dụ nitro hóa, formyl hóa) nhằm xây dựng cấu trúc cho R&D hương–liệu, dược–nông dược; ngoài ra còn dùng như chất tham chiếu/thuốc thử trong nghiên cứu quang–oxy hóa ether thơm và phát triển phương pháp phân tích mùi–bay hơi, với yêu cầu xử lý như chất lỏng dễ cháy, tránh ánh sáng và chất oxy hóa mạnh.
