    2-Carene (CAS 554-61-0) là một monoterpen hai vòng mùi thông–cam hiện diện trong dầu nhựa thông và nhiều tinh dầu; nhờ hương đặc trưng và độ bay hơi phù hợp, nó được dùng làm thành phần hương trong nước hoa, xà phòng, chất tẩy rửa, chất khử mùi không khí, nến thơm và làm chất điều vị ghi chú thông/citrus cho thực phẩm–đồ uống ở hàm lượng vi lượng; trong hóa học công nghiệp, 2-carene là nguyên liệu sinh học để biến tính (hydro hóa, epoxi hóa, oxy hóa, polymer hóa cation) nhằm tạo dẫn xuất terpene, chất pha loãng phản ứng, monomer và nhựa terpene cho keo dán, sơn phủ, mực in và chất bịt kín; nó cũng được khai thác như dung môi “xanh” có nguồn gốc tái tạo trong chiết tách, công thức chất làm sạch và làm chất mang hương; trong dược–nông hóa, khung hai vòng có tính đối quang của 2-carene hữu ích làm trung gian/tác nhân xây dựng; thêm vào đó, đặc tính khử mùi, ức chế vi sinh và xua côn trùng được nghiên cứu cho ứng dụng trong vật liệu bao gói, xử lý gỗ và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân.
