Applications
Dibutyltin dichloride (CAS 683-18-1) is used principally as a Lewis acid catalyst and processing reagent in industrial polymer and coating systems: it acts as a catalyst for polyurethane formation (including foams) and for the curing of epoxy and polyester resins; it may be employed as a catalyst in esterification/transesterification steps during polymer processing; it also serves as an intermediate in organotin synthesis, enabling preparation of tin-based catalysts and crosslinking agents; in coatings and adhesives formulations it can function as a curing or coupling agent to improve film formation and adhesion.
