    Citric acid (CAS 77-92-9) is widely employed in the food industry as an acidity regulator, flavor enhancer and natural preservative that inhibits microbial growth and maintains color, while its strong chelating ability makes it a key component of household cleaners, descaling agents for kettles, metal surface treatments and pipeline maintenance; in pharmaceuticals it is used to adjust pH, form citrate buffering salts, protect actives from oxidation in injectable solutions, improve solubility and generate effervescence in tablets; in cosmetics it controls pH, boosts antioxidant performance and provides gentle exfoliation; beyond these areas citric acid is involved in water treatment, electroplating, textile dyeing, manufacture of biodegradable polymers and as a flavor carrier in sports beverages.
