Carbon disulfide (CAS 75-15-0) is a versatile industrial solvent and chemical intermediate used across several sectors; in the viscose rayon and cellophane sector, it is used as a solvent and reagent to form cellulose xanthate for spinning viscose fibers and film; in the rubber industry, CS2 provides sulfur for the synthesis of vulcanization accelerators such as thiuram disulfides; in agriculture, it is a precursor for dithiocarbamate fungicides; in coatings, inks, and adhesives, CS2 serves as a processing solvent and processing aid for resins and gums; and it also acts as a building block for sulfur-containing intermediates used in plastics and related materials.
