    Sclareol (CAS 515-03-7) là một diterpen rượu tự nhiên chiết xuất chủ yếu từ cây xô thơm Muscat, nổi tiếng trong ngành hương liệu như nguyên liệu xây dựng mùi hổ phách ấm áp, sâu và lưu hương bền trong nước hoa cao cấp, đồng thời đóng vai trò chất trung gian then chốt để tổng hợp Ambroxide, Sclareolide và các dẫn xuất labdane khác; trong mỹ phẩm nó được dùng làm chất cố định mùi và điều biến hương trong kem dưỡng, dầu gội, nến thơm; trong dược phẩm và y sinh học, sclareol được nghiên cứu rộng rãi về khả năng gây chết tế bào ung thư thông qua cảm ứng apoptosis, tác dụng kháng khuẩn, kháng nấm, kháng viêm và chống oxy hóa, hứa hẹn trở thành scaffold bán tổng hợp thuốc mới; ở nông nghiệp nó thể hiện hiệu lực xua đuổi côn trùng và ức chế nấm gây bệnh cây trồng; cuối cùng, nhờ cấu trúc bicyclic đặc trưng, sclareol còn là nền tảng quan trọng cho hóa học tổng hợp và các nghiên cứu hoá sinh đánh dấu đồng vị.
