    Isopiperitenone (CAS 529-01-1) là một monoterpen keton không bão hòa xuất hiện như chất trung gian trong con đường sinh tổng hợp menthol của các loài Mentha; trong thực hành, nó được dùng chủ yếu làm chất chuẩn phân tích để định tính/định lượng dấu vết trong tinh dầu bạc hà bằng GC-MS/GC-FID và để xác thực, phát hiện pha trộn hoặc biến đổi sau thu hoạch, làm cơ chất/mẫu nền trong nghiên cứu enzym học và chuyển hóa (ví dụ khảo sát dehydrogenase/reductase họ p-menthane, theo dõi dòng chuyển hóa bằng đồng vị), và như khối xây dựng tổng hợp để chuẩn bị hoặc biến đổi các monoterpen keton liên quan (pulegone, menthone/isomenthone và các dẫn xuất mùi hương), đồng thời được khai thác trong hóa sinh và kỹ thuật chuyển hóa nhằm tái cấu trúc tuyến đường tạo hương bạc hà ở vi sinh vật; ngoài ra, hồ sơ hiện diện của nó còn được dùng như chỉ dấu hóa học để phân biệt chemotype/giống Mentha và đánh giá ảnh hưởng điều kiện canh tác, và đôi khi làm chất tham chiếu trong sàng lọc hoạt tính sinh học in vitro của các enone, tuy nhiên việc sử dụng trực tiếp trong hương liệu – thực phẩm thường bị giới hạn và cần tuân thủ quy định an toàn vì enone có tính phản ứng, nên thao tác trong điều kiện thông gió, hạn chế tiếp xúc với oxy/ánh sáng và sử dụng PPE phù hợp.
