    Isobutyl butyrate là một este của axit butyric có dạng chất lỏng không màu với mùi trái cây dịu nhẹ, được ứng dụng rộng rãi làm chất tạo hương vị trong thực phẩm, kẹo, đồ uống có cồn và không cồn, sản phẩm sữa lên men, kem và đồ ăn vặt, tái hiện mùi lê, chuối, táo chín hoặc mùi bơ; nó còn được dùng trong nước hoa, xà phòng, chất khử mùi, thuốc lá, sơn móng tay, mực in, sơn phủ và vecni nhờ khả năng bay hơi tốt và độ hòa tan chọn lọc, đồng thời đóng vai trò dung môi cho nhựa alkyd, nitrocellulose và acrylic, chất hóa dẻo phụ trợ cho cellulose acetate, nhựa vinyl, dung môi chiết tách hương tự nhiên và dược chất; trong nông nghiệp, hợp chất này được sử dụng làm chất dẫn dụ côn trùng để giám sát hoặc bẫy sinh học; với tình trạng FEMA GRAS, Isobutyl butyrate đáp ứng quy định an toàn khi dùng trong giới hạn, giúp cải thiện hương thơm, gia tăng tính linh hoạt của vật liệu và tối ưu hóa hiệu năng của các công thức phủ bề mặt cần khô nhanh.
