    Germacrone (CAS 6902-91-6) là sesquiterpen đơn vòng hiện diện nhiều trong tinh dầu các loài Curcuma (đặc biệt Curcuma zedoaria), được ứng dụng chủ yếu trong nghiên cứu tiền lâm sàng nhờ phổ hoạt tính sinh học rộng: chống viêm (điều biến trục TLR4/NF-κB và các chất trung gian như NO, PGE2, TNF-α, IL-6), kháng vi sinh vật (vi khuẩn và nấm), kháng virus, và chống u bướu thông qua cảm ứng apoptosis, điều hòa PI3K/Akt–MAPK và ức chế EMT; vì kém tan trong nước, hợp chất này còn được dùng làm mô hình trong các nghiên cứu hệ dẫn thuốc (nano/liposome/cyclodextrin) và đánh giá hiệp đồng với thuốc hóa trị; ngoài ra germacrone là chất chuẩn phân tích trong HPLC/GC–MS cho kiểm soát chất lượng dược liệu Curcuma, chỉ thị hóa học cho nghiên cứu sinh tổng hợp/định loại, và là thành tố đóng góp mùi cùng tác dụng của tinh dầu trong mỹ phẩm/aromatherapy, đồng thời được khảo sát như hoạt chất nguồn gốc thực vật tiềm năng cho bảo vệ cây trồng; lưu ý chưa phải thuốc được phê duyệt, chủ yếu dùng cho mục đích nghiên cứu.
