    Germacrene B (CAS 15423-57-1) là một hydrocarbon sesquiterpene tự nhiên hiện diện trong nhiều tinh dầu thực vật; các ứng dụng điển hình gồm: nghiên cứu hương liệu và chuẩn hóa tinh dầu, nơi nó đóng góp nốt hương thảo mộc/ấm/gỗ nhưng hiếm khi được dùng đơn lẻ do kém bền và dễ chuyển vị; hóa phân tích như chất đối chiếu/chuẩn trong GC-MS và chỉ thị hóa học cho mục đích định danh, kiểm soát chất lượng và phân loại hóa học–thực vật; nghiên cứu nông nghiệp và sinh thái hóa học như một hợp chất bay hơi của cây (semiochemical) được khảo sát vai trò xua đuổi/thu hút hoặc ức chế ăn mồi đối với côn trùng và làm mô hình cơ chế phòng vệ của thực vật; sàng lọc dược lý tiền lâm sàng như một khung sesquiterpene với các hoạt tính in vitro đã được báo cáo (kháng khuẩn, kháng viêm, chống oxy hóa) nhưng chưa có chỉ định y tế; sinh học tổng hợp và enzyme học để đặc trưng germacrene‑B synthase và thiết kế vi sinh vật sản xuất sesquiterpene; nghiên cứu môi trường–khí quyển về phát thải VOC sinh học và động học oxy hóa; lưu ý kỹ thuật rằng hợp chất này dễ đồng phân hóa/chuyển vị thành các elemene dưới nhiệt/axit (ví dụ trong GC), vì vậy nên dùng điều kiện phân tích nhẹ và bảo quản mát, hạn chế oxy/ánh sáng.
