    Lauric aldehyde (dodecanal, CAS 112-54-9) là một aldehyde béo mạch thẳng 12 carbon có mùi thơm ngọt, béo và hơi cam quýt, được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong ngành hương liệu – mỹ phẩm để tạo nốt hương kem béo, dừa, sữa và kẹo trong nước hoa, xà phòng, chất tẩy rửa, nến thơm; trong công nghiệp thực phẩm nó là chất tạo hương được FEMA/GRAS công nhận giúp gia tăng mùi vị cho bánh quy, kẹo cao su, đồ uống và sản phẩm sữa; trong dược phẩm và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân nó góp phần che giấu mùi hoạt chất, tạo cảm giác dịu nhẹ và kéo dài hương thơm; ngoài ra hợp chất này được dùng làm chất trung gian tổng hợp chất hoạt động bề mặt, thuốc trừ côn trùng sinh học và pheromone kiểm soát sâu hại, cũng như chất hiệu chỉnh mùi cho cao su, nhựa, sơn và dầu nhờn, nhờ tính bay hơi chậm, khả năng tương thích tốt với nhiều dung môi hữu cơ và tính ổn định cao trong điều kiện sản xuất công nghiệp.
