    Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS, CAS 624-92-0) là một hợp chất lưu huỳnh hữu cơ có mùi tỏi nồng, được sử dụng rộng rãi làm chất khử lưu huỳnh và sunfua hóa xúc tác trong ngành lọc – hoá dầu (giúp hoạt hoá và bảo vệ xúc tác hydro-desulfurization, hydro-cracking), làm tác nhân tiền xử lý và khử trùng đất nông nghiệp để kiểm soát tuyến trùng, nấm và cỏ dại thay thế methyl bromide, làm chất gia hương giả hành – tỏi trong thực phẩm, hương liệu và thuốc lá, tiền chất tổng hợp methanesulfonyl chloride, thuốc bảo vệ thực vật, dược chất trung gian, chất xúc tiến lưu hóa cao su, phụ gia khai thác dầu khí, dung môi chiết tách lưu huỳnh trong than – dầu nặng, chất chuẩn phát hiện rò rỉ khí và phụ gia giảm ăn mòn trong công nghiệp giấy, nhờ đặc tính bay hơi cao, độ hòa tan tốt và khả năng tạo lưu huỳnh hoạt tính mạnh với chi phí thấp.
