    (−)-Carvyl acetate, CAS 97-42-7, là este có hương thơm đặc trưng pha trộn giữa bạc hà và cam quýt, được khai thác rộng rãi trong công nghiệp hương liệu để tạo sắc thái tươi mát cho nước hoa, xà phòng, dầu gội, sữa tắm và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân, đồng thời là thành phần tạo vị cho kẹo cao su, kẹo ngậm, đồ uống và thực phẩm nướng nhờ khả năng ổn định mùi tốt hơn so với các terpene tự do; trong công nghệ thực phẩm, nó còn đóng vai trò chất che khuyết (flavor masking) giúp cân bằng vị đắng của chất tạo ngọt tổng hợp, còn trong nông nghiệp, phân tử này được nghiên cứu như chất dẫn dụ côn trùng để bẫy sinh học hoặc chất xua đuổi tự nhiên giảm phụ thuộc thuốc trừ sâu; về mặt hóa học, (−)-Carvyl acetate là khối xây dựng bất đối xứng thuận tiện cho tổng hợp dược chất có hoạt tính optically pure, đồng thời là dung môi xanh tiềm năng do có nguồn gốc sinh học và khả năng phân hủy sinh học cao.
