    Beta-Sesquiphellandrene (CAS 20307-83-9) là một sesquiterpen tự nhiên hiện diện trong tinh dầu gừng và một số loài thực vật thơm, được ứng dụng chủ yếu ở ba hướng: công nghiệp hương liệu–hương thơm, phân tích–kiểm nghiệm, và nghiên cứu–nông nghiệp sinh học; trong hương liệu và nước hoa, hợp chất này góp phần tạo nốt ấm, cay, gỗ–nhựa đặc trưng của gừng nên được dùng để tinh chỉnh profile mùi cho đồ uống, bánh kẹo, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân, nến thơm và xịt phòng, cũng như để mô phỏng/phong phú hóa các phối hương gia vị tự nhiên; ở phòng thí nghiệm và kiểm soát chất lượng, beta-sesquiphellandrene thường làm chất chỉ thị thành phần và chất chuẩn GC–MS cho việc nhận dạng, định lượng và truy xuất nguồn gốc tinh dầu (ví dụ dầu gừng) nhằm phát hiện pha trộn, đánh giá độ tươi và chuẩn hóa lô sản xuất, đồng thời là phân tử mẫu để nghiên cứu con đường sinh tổng hợp terpene, hoạt tính enzyme terpene synthase và chemotaxonomy; về ứng dụng sinh học, nhiều nghiên cứu đã khảo sát khả năng xua đuổi/ức chế ăn của côn trùng gây hại và hoạt tính kháng vi sinh vật của hợp chất này trong tinh dầu, gợi ý tiềm năng cho công thức bảo quản sinh học, xử lý sau thu hoạch, chất xua đuổi thân thiện môi trường hoặc làm mục tiêu chuyển hóa/kỹ thuật di truyền nhằm tăng mùi hương và sức chống chịu của cây, tuy vậy cần đánh giá an toàn, hiệu quả và tuân thủ quy định trước khi triển khai; trong phát triển sản phẩm, do tính bay hơi và nhạy oxy/ánh sáng, beta-sesquiphellandrene thường được quản lý bằng vi bao, chất mang hoặc thiết kế ma trận để cải thiện ổn định và độ bền mùi.
