    beta-Farnesene (CAS 77129-48-7) là một sesquiterpene tự nhiên có ứng dụng đa dạng vừa như thành phần hoạt tính vừa như hóa chất trung gian: trong nông nghiệp, nó hoạt động như chất điều biến hành vi côn trùng (mô phỏng pheromone báo động của rệp) để xua đuổi, gây nhiễu, hỗ trợ bẫy và tăng hiệu quả quản lý dịch hại tổng hợp thân thiện môi trường; trong hương liệu, gia vị và mỹ phẩm, nó mang sắc thái xanh, gỗ và thảo mộc giúp tăng độ khuếch tán và vai trò cố định trong nước hoa, hương thực phẩm và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân; trong hóa học nền sinh học, beta-farnesene lên men từ đường là phân tử nền có thể hydro hóa thành farnesane cho nhiên liệu tái tạo, oligome hóa/hydro hóa thành squalane và hemisqualane làm chất làm mềm, dung môi dịu nhẹ và chất mang, cũng như chuyển hóa thành chất bôi trơn, chất hoạt động bề mặt, nhựa và polyme chuyên dụng; thêm vào đó, khả năng phân hủy sinh học, hồ sơ an toàn thuận lợi và đặc tính bay hơi phù hợp giúp nó được ưa chuộng trong các công thức xanh và chuỗi cung ứng bền vững.
