    beta-Cadinene (β-cadinene, CAS 523-47-7) là một sesquiterpen hydrocarbon có mùi gỗ, cay ấm và hơi khói, được ứng dụng chủ yếu trong công nghiệp hương liệu để xây dựng các nốt gỗ–gia vị, tăng chiều sâu và độ bền hương cho nước hoa, nến và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân; trong nghiên cứu và kiểm soát chất lượng tinh dầu, nó được dùng làm chất đánh dấu/chuẩn GC–MS để định tính định lượng, phục vụ thẩm định nguồn gốc thực vật (hóa phân loại), theo dõi biến động hương trong quá trình chưng cất, bảo quản và phát hiện pha trộn/gian lận; trong khoa học thực vật và nông nghiệp, β-cadinene là hợp chất bay hơi liên quan đến cơ chế tự vệ của cây, được khảo sát về hoạt tính kháng vi sinh, kháng nấm, xua đuổi côn trùng và tiềm năng làm tác nhân bảo quản sinh học hoặc thuốc bảo vệ thực vật có nguồn gốc tự nhiên (cần tối ưu công thức và tuân thủ quy định); trong phát triển hương–vị và công nghệ thực phẩm, sự hiện diện của nó trong nguyên liệu tự nhiên hỗ trợ xây dựng hồ sơ cảm quan và truy xuất nguồn gốc, dù việc sử dụng trực tiếp làm phụ gia còn phụ thuộc vào quy định địa phương; ngoài ra, hợp chất còn được nghiên cứu trong hóa học khí quyển như một BVOC ít bay hơi để hiểu quá trình oxy hóa, tạo aerosol hữu cơ thứ cấp; lưu ý an toàn và pháp lý: là chất dễ cháy, có thể gây kích ứng, cần bảo quản kín, tối, mát và tuân thủ tiêu chuẩn an toàn hóa chất, cũng như các giới hạn và đăng ký liên quan khi ứng dụng thương mại.
