    Farnesene (hỗn hợp các đồng phân, CAS 502-61-4) là một sesquiterpene có giá trị cao, được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong công nghiệp hương liệu – mỹ phẩm để tạo mùi táo xanh, lê và hoa cỏ tươi mát cho nước hoa, dầu gội, xà phòng; trong ngành thực phẩm – đồ uống như một chất tạo hương trái cây tự nhiên và thành phần cải thiện vị giác trong kẹo, bánh, nước ngọt; trong nông nghiệp như chất bán hoá học thu hút hoặc xua đuổi côn trùng, đóng vai trò pheromone của rệp táo nhằm kiểm soát dịch hại sinh học thân thiện môi trường; trong dược – y sinh như tiền chất tổng hợp dẫn xuất kháng khuẩn, kháng viêm, cũng như thành phần hoạt tính trong các sản phẩm chăm sóc da nhờ đặc tính chống oxy hoá; đồng thời, nhờ nguồn gốc sinh học và cấu trúc hydrocacbon mạch thẳng, farnesene còn được dùng làm monomer sinh học để sản xuất nhựa sinh học polyethylene-like, chất dẻo dẻo dai, nhờn bôi trơn, và làm hydrocarbon sinh học cho nhiên liệu máy bay, động cơ xăng, giúp giảm phụ thuộc vào dầu mỏ và hạ phát thải carbon.
