    alpha-Calacorene (CAS 21391-99-1) là một sesquiterpen hydrocarbon tự nhiên hiện diện trong nhiều tinh dầu, được ứng dụng chủ yếu trong công nghiệp hương liệu để mang lại sắc thái gỗ, nhựa, ấm–khói và hơi cay cho nước hoa mịn, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân và hương nhà cửa (thường dùng ở nồng độ rất thấp hoặc như chất điều chỉnh/ghép mùi), đồng thời được sử dụng trong phòng thí nghiệm như chất chuẩn phân tích để nhận diện/định lượng thành phần tinh dầu bằng GC–MS/GC–FID, làm chỉ thị hóa học cho truy xuất nguồn gốc và kiểm soát chất lượng dược liệu, nghiên cứu chuyển hóa sinh học và con đường sinh tổng hợp sesquiterpen, khảo sát hoạt tính sinh học tiềm năng của dầu thực vật chứa nó, nghiên cứu cảm quan và đào tạo khứu giác, cũng như trong hóa học khí quyển như một hợp chất BVOC đại diện để đánh giá sự hình thành chất ôxy hóa/aerosol thứ cấp và để tối ưu hóa quy trình chiết–lưu trữ nhằm hạn chế oxy hóa hoặc biến đổi mùi.
