    alpha-Bisabolene (CAS 17627-44-0) là một sesquiterpen hydrocarbon được ứng dụng rộng rãi như chất tạo hương trong nước hoa, mỹ phẩm và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân (mùi gỗ, ấm, hơi ngọt), đồng thời làm chất điều vị trong thực phẩm và đồ uống; trong công nghiệp hương liệu–hương vị, nó còn là nguyên liệu trung gian để tổng hợp các cấu tử mùi khác và biến đổi hóa học nhằm điều chỉnh hồ sơ hương; ở lĩnh vực công nghệ sinh học và năng lượng, alpha-bisabolene được sản xuất bằng lên men và có thể hydro hóa thành bisabolane – một ứng viên nhiên liệu sinh học giống diesel/jet và tiền chất cho vật liệu có nguồn gốc sinh học; về hoạt tính sinh học, nhiều nghiên cứu in vitro/in vivo tiền lâm sàng ghi nhận đặc tính kháng viêm, kháng khuẩn, chống oxy hóa và xua đuổi/ức chế côn trùng, gợi mở ứng dụng trong công thức chăm sóc da, chất bảo quản tự nhiên bổ trợ, và bảo vệ cây trồng, tuy nhiên việc sử dụng cụ thể cần tuân thủ giới hạn an toàn và quy định của từng thị trường; ngoài ra, hợp chất này có thể được phối hợp như chất tăng cường hương (flavor/fragrance enhancer) trong sản phẩm tẩy rửa gia dụng, nến thơm và khuếch tán hương, nhờ độ bay hơi trung bình và tính tương thích tốt với nhiều hệ dung môi của tinh dầu.
