    alpha-Bergamotene, (E)-(-)- (CAS 13474-59-4) là một sesquiterpen hiđrocacbon đối quang, hiện diện tự nhiên trong nhiều tinh dầu (như dầu cam bergamot và các loài thực vật thơm) và có các ứng dụng nổi bật: làm thành phần tạo hương trong nước hoa và hương liệu thực phẩm với nốt mùi tươi, gỗ–citrus, thảo mộc và cay nhẹ, dùng để phục dựng “chữ ký” hương của tinh dầu tự nhiên và các phối hương thuốc lá/trà/đồ uống; làm chất chuẩn và chất chỉ thị trong GC–MS/GC×GC và GC đối quang để nhận diện, định lượng, kiểm chứng nguồn gốc và độ tinh khiết đối quang của tinh dầu; đóng vai trò bán hóa học trong nghiên cứu sinh thái–nông nghiệp vì là tín hiệu bay hơi của cây thu hút thụ phấn và lôi kéo thiên địch của sâu hại, hỗ trợ bẫy mùi, thí nghiệm hành vi và chiến lược IPM kiểu “đẩy–kéo”; là khối xây dựng đối quang/tiền chất cho tổng hợp khung sesquiterpen; đồng thời được dùng như hợp chất mô hình trong sinh lý thực vật và hóa học khí quyển (oxy hóa VOC, hình thành SOA) cũng như nghiên cứu phóng thích có kiểm soát/vi bao, với việc ứng dụng tuân thủ các quy chuẩn an toàn hương liệu và phụ gia liên quan.
