    alpha-Bergamotene, (E)-(-)- (CAS 17829-53-7) là một sesquiterpen tự nhiên có nhiều ứng dụng: trong hương liệu-thực phẩm (đóng góp nốt hương cam chanh, tiêu gỗ, thảo mộc cho nước hoa, hương phẩm, đồ uống và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân), trong khoa học phân tích (làm chất chuẩn tinh khiết và chất đánh dấu lập thể cho GC-MS/GCxGC, sắc ký khí đối quang để phân giải enantiomer, kiểm tra tính xác thực và dấu vân mùi của tinh dầu bergamot, hoa houblon, thuốc lá và các ma trận thực vật), và trong sinh thái hóa học-nông nghiệp (là VOC bán hóa học để nghiên cứu khả năng dẫn dụ hoặc xua đuổi côn trùng, thu hút thiên địch và thụ phấn, hỗ trợ thiết kế mồi nhử và chiến lược IPM thân thiện môi trường); ngoài ra còn được dùng như phân tử mô hình/tiền chất trong tổng hợp hữu cơ và kỹ thuật sinh tổng hợp terpen để khảo sát enzym terpene synthase, tối ưu con đường MVA/MEP và lập trình mùi của cây trồng; các ứng dụng này đòi hỏi kiểm soát chặt chẽ độ tinh khiết đồng phân, độ bền oxy hóa và điều kiện bảo quản (khí trơ, mát, tối), và thường được triển khai cho mục đích R&D, tiêu chuẩn chất lượng và phát triển sản phẩm.
