    2-Heptanone (methyl n-amyl ketone), số CAS 110-43-0, là một xeton mạch thẳng có mùi chuối đặc trưng, được ứng dụng rộng rãi làm thành phần hương liệu trong công nghiệp thực phẩm, bánh kẹo, nước giải khát, cũng như hương thơm trong mỹ phẩm, nước hoa, nến thơm; trong phòng thí nghiệm nó là dung môi tương đối phân cực cho nhựa, sơn, chất kết dính, mực in và chất phủ công nghiệp nhờ điểm sôi vừa phải và khả năng hòa tan este, nitrocellulose, acrylic; trong nông nghiệp và sinh học phân tử, 2-Heptanone được nghiên cứu như pheromone cảnh báo của ong mật, chất xua đuổi loài gặm nhấm và côn trùng, chỉ thị sinh học hơi thở cho chẩn đoán bệnh; hóa chất này cũng là trung gian tổng hợp dược phẩm, thuốc trừ sâu, chất hoạt động bề mặt, nhưng cần tuân thủ quy định an toàn do dễ cháy và có thể gây kích ứng hô hấp, da, mắt.
