  • Applications

    Sodium Chromate (CAS 7775-11-3) is widely used as a chromium source for metal-finishing processes and is employed in chromate-based conversion coatings to improve corrosion resistance on steel and aluminum substrates; it also serves as an intermediate for chromate pigments and other chromium(VI) compounds used in coatings, inks, and plastics. It can function as an oxidizing agent in selected organic syntheses and as a feedstock to prepare other chromium(VI) chemicals such as sodium dichromate and chromium trioxide. In industrial water systems, it has historically been used as a corrosion inhibitor and pretreatment for cooling-water circuits, with current use governed by environmental and chromium(VI) regulations.
