Applications
Phosphoric acid, iron(2+) salt (2:3), octahydrate (CAS 10028-23-6) is commonly used as a source of iron and phosphate in industrial formulations. In coatings and inks, it serves as a precursor for iron phosphate–based pigments and acts as a corrosion-inhibiting pigment in primers for steel surfaces. In agriculture, ferrous phosphate salts are used in pest-control formulations (slug and snail baits) and may provide a slow-release iron source under certain conditions. In ceramics and glazes, it can function as a phosphate flux and dopant to modify crystallization and glaze properties. In electronics and energy storage, the salt may be used as a precursor for iron phosphate–based materials such as LiFePO4-type compounds used in batteries or catalysts, depending on formulation.
