  • Applications

N-Butyl methacrylate (n-BMA, CAS 97-88-1) is a versatile methacrylate monomer used to copolymerize acrylic resins and latexes that deliver flexibility, adhesion, and outstanding weatherability; it is widely applied in architectural and industrial coatings (automotive, wood, metal), UV/EB-curable inks and varnishes, pressure-sensitive and solventborne adhesives, sealants, and water-resistant topcoats due to its hydrophobicity and adhesion to metals, plastics, and porous substrates; in engineering polymers, n-BMA tunes Tg, hardness–flexibility balance, and impact strength when copolymerized with MMA, styrene, and other acrylates to make modified PMMA, core–shell impact modifiers, and compatibilizers; in textile, leather, and paper finishes, n-BMA-based emulsions impart hand, gloss, and soil resistance; in UV systems it also serves as a reactive diluent to lower viscosity while improving film flexibility and adhesion, and it contributes to long-term weathering performance, light chemical resistance, and optical clarity in advanced coating, ink, and specialty resin formulations.
