Applications
Glutaric acid (CAS 110-94-1) is a versatile diacid primarily used as a chemical intermediate in polymer synthesis. It serves as a monomer or chain extender for polyesters (including thermoplastics and unsaturated types), polyamides, and polyurethanes, enabling tuning of mechanical and thermal properties. It is also converted to glutarate esters and other derivatives that function as plasticizers, crosslinkers, or reactive intermediates in coatings, inks, and adhesive formulations. In coatings and adhesive systems, glutaric acid–based intermediates can act as curing agents or crosslinking components to improve film hardness and chemical resistance. It also serves as a building block for pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates and can be leveraged in the development of biobased or renewable polymer formulations, subject to formulation constraints and regulation.
