Applications
Ferrous sulfate is primarily used as an iron source for crops in agriculture to address iron deficiency chlorosis; in potable water treatment it provides Fe2+ and acts as a reducing agent that supports oxidation–reduction and co-precipitation processes to remove iron, manganese and organic contaminants; in the textile industry it is employed as a reducing agent in vat and sulfur dyeing and can serve as a mordant to help fix natural dyes; in pigment and coating production it is a starting material for iron oxide pigments and related colorants; in pharmaceuticals and fortified foods it serves as an iron source for dietary supplements and fortified products, subject to regulatory limits.
