  • Applications

    Ammonium dichromate is primarily used as a strong oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and as a convenient source of Cr(VI) for chromate conversion coatings and related surface-finishing chemistries. In industrial manufacturing, it is used to generate chromic acid solutions for chromate conversion coatings on metal substrates, notably aluminum and steel, to improve corrosion resistance and adhesion of the finish. It also serves as a precursor for chromium(VI) reagents used in specialized laboratory and finishing processes, and appears in certain analytical workflows as an oxidant in redox-based methods. Because of its toxicity and Cr(VI) content, use is typically subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
