Applications
Aluminum bromide (CAS 7727-15-3) is a strong Lewis acid widely used as a catalyst or promoter in organic synthesis, notably in Friedel–Crafts alkylation and acylation on aromatic substrates. It is also employed as a catalyst for the cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers, isobutylene, and related monomers to produce specialty polymers and coating resins. In addition, Aluminum bromide can serve as a bromination/halogenation activator and as an intermediate in the synthesis of industrial fine chemicals. Its use spans industrial manufacturing of resins, coatings and adhesives, polymers, and specialty organics, though applications are subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
