Applications
Acid red 163 (CAS 13421-53-9) is a water-soluble azo dye primarily used as an acid dye for protein fibers, enabling vivid coloration of wool and silk (and often nylon) under acidic bath conditions. It is also employed in leather dyeing to achieve red hues on finished goods. In industrial coatings and printing inks, it serves as a colorant in water-based formulations compatible with acid-dye chemistry. Additionally, the dye can be used to color certain plastics and polymer blends where processing and formulation permit dye uptake. Its use is typically formulation- and regulation-dependent.
