    Tripropionin (CAS 139-45-7), còn gọi là glycerol tripropionat hoặc glyceryl tripropionate, là một triglycerid mạch ngắn được ưa chuộng trong nhiều lĩnh vực, từ công nghiệp thực phẩm đến nghiên cứu sinh hóa: nhờ hương vị hơi bơ ngậy và độ bay hơi thấp, nó được dùng như chất tạo mùi, dung môi mang hương hoặc chất điều chỉnh kết cấu trong kẹo, bánh quy và đồ uống; tính chất plastic hoá tốt của nó giúp cải thiện độ dẻo, độ bền kéo và khả năng chống nứt cho màng cellulose acetat, nitrocellulose và những polyme có nguồn gốc sinh học; trong mỹ phẩm, Tripropionin đóng vai trò chất làm mềm, tạo cảm giác mịn khi thoa và tăng độ ổn định cho nhũ tương dầu-trong-nước; trong dược phẩm, nó là pha dầu tiềm năng cho hệ tiểu phân nano và vi cầu kiểm soát giải phóng thuốc nhờ khả năng hoà tan vừa phải đối với hoạt chất kỵ nước; ngoài ra, giới nghiên cứu lipid học còn dùng Tripropionin như chất chuẩn nội để định lượng chromatographic các triglycerid chuỗi ngắn hoặc là mô hình khảo sát động học thủy phân enzym lipase.
