    Methyl octanoate (còn gọi là methyl caprylat, CAS 111-11-5) được sử dụng rộng rãi làm hương liệu thực phẩm với mùi trái cây béo ngậy gợi nhớ tới dừa và sữa, là thành phần trong tinh dầu và nước hoa để tạo nốt hương mượt, được bổ sung vào kẹo, đồ uống và sản phẩm nướng nhằm tăng cảm giác béo thơm, đồng thời đóng vai trò dung môi kỵ nước trung tính trong mực in, sơn và mỹ phẩm, tiền chất tổng hợp các chất làm dẻo, chất hoạt động bề mặt và chất mềm da, phụ gia bôi trơn cho dầu động cơ và thiết bị y tế, mô hình ester nghiên cứu động học cháy và xúc tác trong lĩnh vực nhiên liệu sinh học, chất hiệu chuẩn và tiêu chuẩn phân tích trong GC-MS/LC-MS, cũng như tiền chất chế tạo pheromone và thuốc trừ sâu sinh học.
