    Axit linoleic (CAS 60-33-3) là một acid béo không no omega-6 có vai trò quan trọng trong nhiều lĩnh vực: trong công nghiệp thực phẩm nó được dùng để tăng giá trị dinh dưỡng cho dầu ăn, bơ thực vật và thực phẩm chức năng nhờ khả năng hỗ trợ chuyển hóa lipid, giảm cholesterol và chống viêm; trong dược phẩm và mỹ phẩm nó tham gia làm tá dược nhũ hóa, dưỡng ẩm, phục hồi hàng rào bảo vệ da, giảm mụn và hỗ trợ điều trị viêm da; trong chăm sóc tóc nó giúp cải thiện độ bóng, giảm gãy rụng; trong hóa chất kỹ thuật nó được este hóa để sản xuất chất làm dẻo, nhựa alkyd, sơn khô nhanh, mực in, chất phủ, dầu cắt gọt và tiền chất biodiesel, đồng thời còn là nguồn nguyên liệu sinh học tái tạo cho các polyme phân hủy sinh học thân thiện môi trường.
