    Farnesol, (2Z,6Z)- (CAS 16106-95-9) là một rượu sesquiterpen được ứng dụng chủ yếu trong hương liệu-mỹ phẩm nhờ mùi hoa ngọt dịu với sắc thái muguet, cam chanh và khả năng cố định mùi: được phối vào nước hoa tinh xảo, xà phòng, chất tẩy rửa, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân và chất làm thơm không khí để làm tròn cấu trúc, kéo dài lưu hương và tăng khuếch tán; đồng thời đóng vai trò chất khử mùi nhờ hoạt tính ức chế vi khuẩn gây mùi ở da, sử dụng trong lăn/xịt khử mùi, sản phẩm chăm sóc chân và miệng ở nồng độ thấp; trong dược-sinh học, nó được dùng như chất chuẩn/tiền chất để tổng hợp dẫn xuất farnesyl, neo đậu lipid lên peptid-protein, và là đối tượng nghiên cứu về cảm ứng chết theo chương trình, điều biến con đường mevalonate và tín hiệu quorum của Candida albicans (ức chế nấm men chuyển dạng sợi, phá biofilm, hiệp đồng với azol/polien), cũng như mồi/pheromon trong bẫy côn trùng chọn lọc; ngoài ra, ở liều vết có thể dùng làm hương liệu thực phẩm, chất tăng thấm qua da và phụ gia dung môi cho hệ vi nhũ/liposom, với yêu cầu đánh giá an toàn kích ứng-mẫn cảm và tuân thủ IFRA, EU 1223/2009 và quy định gắn nhãn chất gây dị ứng.
