    Ethyl 3-(methylthio)propionate (CAS 13327-56-5) là một este chứa lưu huỳnh có hương trái cây chín pha chút phô mai nhẹ và thịt nướng, vì thế được sử dụng rộng rãi làm chất tạo hương cho nước ép nhiệt đới, kẹo, đồ uống có cồn, bánh nướng, súp ăn liền, gia vị thịt và sản phẩm sữa lên men; đồng thời, sắc thái khói-sulfide đặc thù của nó được các chuyên gia điều hương khai thác để hoàn thiện nốt “cooked” trong nước hoa, hương thuốc lá và cà phê rang, trong khi hợp chất còn đóng vai trò tiền chất tổng hợp thio-este phức tạp hơn cho dược phẩm, thuốc bảo vệ thực vật và hệ mang hương giải phóng có kiểm soát, cũng như làm chất chuẩn phân tích, chất đánh dấu xác thực hương tự nhiên và mô hình nghiên cứu phản ứng Maillard trong khoa học thực phẩm.
