    Ethyl 2-methylbutyrate (CAS 7452-79-1) là este có mùi trái cây mạnh mẽ, được ứng dụng rộng rãi làm chất tạo hương vị táo, dứa, dâu, anh đào trong kẹo, nước giải khát, sữa chua, kem, kẹo cao su và dược phẩm để che vị đắng; đồng thời là thành phần nốt hương đầu cho nước hoa, xịt phòng, nến thơm và các sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân nhờ khả năng mang lại cảm giác tươi mát, ngọt dịu; ngoài ra còn được dùng trong thuốc lá điện tử, mồi nhử côn trùng, dung môi pha sơn mực in, chất chuẩn phân tích trong GC/MS, tiền chất tổng hợp hữu cơ và nghiên cứu dược lý, với ưu điểm dễ phân hủy sinh học, độc tính thấp và đáp ứng tiêu chuẩn FEMA 2454, EU 1334/2008 về phụ gia hương liệu thực phẩm.
